The "P" Word

Procrastination is a horrible thing. The more we put off the more we will eventually need to do. It happens to the best of us but especially for caregivers it can be extremely detrimental.

Why? Because as a caregiver you are spending most of your valuable time and energy caring for an individual who cannot care for themselves. As such the drain on you physically is escalated by the drain on you emotionally. So naturally putting things off seems to be the best thing to do at the time.

But it will catch up with you. You will begin to harbor resentments and feel overwhelmed. The cure? Taking care of business as soon as possible.

Does that mean you have to take care of everything by yourself? No! But you do have to keep a handle on the things affecting your life. Without micro managing projects you can delegate certain tasks to others and follow up on them at your convenience.

Be careful with this that you don't use this as a form of procrastination but you have to set in your calendar when you will actually be addressing the various projects.

Having a good schedule and follow-thru will help you stay on top of things and not feel so inundated.
